Biblical Exhortation:

Beloved, the tongue is a powerful instrument, capable of both building up and tearing down. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” As followers of Christ, we are called to¹ use our words to encourage, edify, and speak truth in love. Backbiting, gossip, and slander are weapons of darkness that sow discord and destroy relationships. Let us be mindful of our speech, guarding our hearts against malice and choosing instead to speak words that bring healing and unity. Let us remember the words of Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”²

Confession:

Heavenly Father, I come before You acknowledging that I have sometimes fallen short in my speech. I confess that I have at times listened to or participated in conversations that were not edifying, and I have allowed negative words to pass through my lips.
