Exhortation:

Beloved in Christ, we gather today to confront a subtle yet destructive force that can poison our hearts and hinder our spiritual growth: the spirit of resentment. Resentment is like a root of bitterness that, if left unchecked, can defile many (Hebrews 12:15). It festers in our hearts when we hold onto past hurts, injustices, or perceived slights. It clouds our judgment, steals our joy, and creates a barrier between us and God, and between us and others. Today, through fervent prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, we will uproot this spirit from our lives and walk in the freedom and forgiveness that Christ has purchased for us. Let us open our hearts to the cleansing power of God and declare war against every seed of resentment within us.

Confession:

Heavenly Father, we come before you acknowledging our human frailties and the times we have allowed resentment to take root in our hearts. We confess that we have harbored feelings of bitterness, anger, and unforgiveness towards those who have hurt or wronged us. We have replayed past hurts in our minds, allowing them to fester and grow. We have sometimes allowed resentment to affect our relationships and our walk with you. Forgive us, Lord, for holding onto these negative emotions that weigh us down and hinder your work in our lives. We turn away from these feelings and ask for your grace to release them completely. Cleanse our hearts and fill us with your love, peace, and forgiveness. In Jesus name, Amen.
